It would be my pleasure to help you transform your pain.
Pain can manifest itself in a variety of ways: stress, anger, grief, depression, shame, anxiety, and/or guilt. Undoubtedly, pain can stifle our "voice" and spirit and hold us back from attaining what we genuinely want for ourselves and from our relationships.
Whether it's the pain we feel in our job or relationships, our daily struggles to simply make it through the day, or current/past pain we did nothing to deserve...the opportunity is the same: to heal, grow and transform.
My name is J. Juan Macias. I'm a Licensed Clinical Social Worker and Career Coach with a passion for collaborating with individuals to help them heal so they can thrive in their relationships with themselves and with others.
My goal is to meet you where you are and create a safe environment conducive for the important work we will do together. I primarily use Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT). I was also recently trained in Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), an extensively researched, effective psychotherapy method proven to help people recover from trauma and PTSD symptoms. (EMDRIA.ORG). I provide therapy in both English and Spanish and can incorporate Christian spirituality, upon request. I also have experience working with clients with career development challenges, enmeshment issues (where there are poor boundaries between family members), men's issues and providing guidance to help you "find your calling."
I will partner with you to help you overcome personal and career challenges such as:
• Reducing feelings of anxiety, depression and grief
• Managing challenging life events
• Identifying your authentic “voice” in personal and workplace relationships
• Being more assertive in communicating your needs and wants so your voice will be "heard"
• Setting limits and taking appropriate responsibility vs. responsibility for everything
• Navigating difficult conversations
• Understanding and managing your anger better
• Helping you discover your authentic self
• Managing expectations of yourself and others
• Growing in self-compassion
• Finding more meaning including redefining success
My clients describe my therapeutic style as down to earth, engendering trust, direct, holistic, action-oriented and challenging, with a sense of humor, while providing them with practical tools and strategies.

More About Me
I have a passion to help individuals overcome psychological stressors and multidimensional barriers to reach their personal goals. After a successful career in staffing, recruiting and employment sales at Robert Half International, I wanted to increase my personal impact so I changed careers to obtain my Master of Social Work (MSW) at University of Southern California (USC) then went on to work as a psychotherapist and medical social worker.
In 2008, I combined my social work and experience in the staffing industry to start a career consulting practice, then returned to my alma mater, the USC Suzanne Dworak-Peck School of Social Work, where I worked for over 10 years delivering comprehensive career and professional development services, counseling and workshops, to graduate students and alumni. During the COVID pandemic, I rediscovered my calling and returned to delivering psychotherapy services to help my clients be the best version of themselves, especially in their careers and interpersonal relationships.
As I mentioned, many years ago, I transitioned from a successful career in the corporate world to ultimately follow my true calling as a therapist; I can't think of a better calling than the privilege of partnering with you to help "transform your pain."
Contact me today for a no-cost 15-minute consultation to see if you feel I could partner with you to reach your goals.
